Story
Alam Dahur and Katoora Malouf married in Lebanon in 1866. In 1893, Alam Dahur died in a tragic accident leaving Katoora to raise their four children alone. In a Lebanese family, a widowed sister is the responsibility of her brother/s. Katoora’s brothers who were already in Australia decided the best way to fulfil this duty was to bring their sister and her children to join them.
In 1895, Katoora arrived in Brisbane with her four children, Eli, Eva, Salem and Lilly, to join her brothers, Calile and Abraham Malouf. According to Calile’s daughter, Minnie, the ‘complete family came out here…my father, his brother and sister’. In Australia, the name Dahur became Dyer.
