Story
Mary Domine (nee Scarfe) came to Australia from Zahle with her husband sometime in the 1880s. They lived in Queensland for at least three years, working for some of this time as hawkers near Charters Towers. Their stay in Queensland was troubled. In October 1890, Mary wrote a letter to the Colonial Secretary’s office requesting that their son, Elias who had been placed in the Reformatory for Boys at Lytton be released to go with them to Sydney. At the time Mary and her family lived at Montague Road South Brisbane. It seems the family remained in Brisbane as in 1893, Mary died in a Brisbane hospital from pneumonia. She was 35 years old.
